I call my PA to discuss what happen but unfortunately he’s not in USM until next week. I say nothing to him over phone regarding what happen to my medical posting.
I just manage to meet my clinical suprvisor. It was really hard to speak with him as his room fill with a lot of people including the block co-ordinator.
“So how’s your problem? Is it improved or not.”
“Well doctor I’ve something else to discuss with you and not ‘that’ problem.”
And I went into long silence until most of people out of his office.
“I was told that I failed the attendance and need to repeat the posting.”
“If that’s the case, even me cannot do anything. What else I can do. It’s happen”
“But I don’t want to repeat it.”
“Relax, you are only fourth year. Don’t worry too much about it.”
And a long silence begins again… Gosh! I hate this.
“Do you think that I should attend the MCQ exam? The block co-coordinator asked me to go.”
“Just go! Learn something there.”
“And my long case exam. Do I have to do it?”
“It’s up to you, but I highly suggest you do it.”
“But it won’t change everything right. I still have to repeat anyway.”
“That doesn’t matter. You failed your attendance but don’t let them see you as a bad student. You have others component and you need to excel them. Don’t give up everything.”
“Then when should I do it?”
“This Wednesday afternoon! Clerk case and we will have a discussion then.”
Long pause. I’m thinking about begging him to talk to clinical co-ordinator. But I don’t think it will be fair for him for doing it. It took me few minutes after the conversation to finally leave the room...
Well, this is a reminder for me for the next posting. This is third phase and disciplines and attitudes are so important. This makes me remember one phrase from one doctor.
“You can not become a doctor with this attitude! How can you survive the year? Start changing now.”
Phew! If CHANGE is easy as ABC then I won’t suffer too much.
